In 2010, there were 337 enterprises above a designated size1 in oil and gas exploitation
industry in China, achieving a gross output value of RMB1.01 trillion. There were 1529
enterprises above a designated size in refinery industry, which brought about an output value
of RMB2.43 trillion. And there were 33,200 enterprises above a designated size in chemical
industry, which arrived at a gross output value of RMB5.23 trillion –surpassing that of the
United States ($734 billion) and by exceeding $770 billion calculated as per the exchange rate.
Thus our chemical industry ranked first in the world in terms of total output. This was a
historic leap and milestone for China's chemical industry.
